A Chinese county that was home to 60 percent of the world's total output of jasmine is to hold the first World Jasmine Conference.

NANNING, July 30 (Xinhua) -- The first World Jasmine Conference, also the 11th national jasmine tea trade fair, will be held from Aug. 30 to Sept. 1, in Hengxian County, south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

The conference has been included in the investment and trade promotion events of the 16th China-ASEAN Expo. It will also include a forum on the development of the jasmine industry and an international jasmine industry expo.

Hengxian County, also known as China's "home of jasmine," planted 7,200 hectares of jasmine with an annual output of jasmine tea exceeding 70,000 tonnes in 2018. It is also the largest jasmine tea production and processing base in the world.

In 2018, the county's annual output of jasmine accounted for about 80 percent of China's total output and 60 percent of the world's total, according to Mei Yu, secretary general of China tea circulation association.

The brand value of jasmine and jasmine tea in the county is estimated to total about 20.3 billion yuan (2.95 billion U.S. dollars), according to Xie Dong, deputy director of Guangxi's agriculture and rural affairs department.
