BEIJING, July 31 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese version of the musical "Tegami," based on Japanese author Keigo Higashino's novel of the same name, will hit stages in four Chinese cities in August and September.

"Tegami" tells the story of a man who is powerless against his irreversible fate but still tries to overcome it in the quest for his dream.

Takeshi is injured at work and loses his job. In order to raise money for his younger brother Naoki, Takeshi commits a crime and is sentenced to life in prison but sends a letter each month to his brother.

Takeshi's imprisonment deals a blow to Naoki, who is thereafter shunned and branded as a "murderer's brother" and is deprived of his love, career and dream. Naoki's desperate situation gradually changes when he finds his true love Yumiko, who stands by him. To protect the love that he has finally found, Naoki begins writing letters to his brother.

The musical, co-produced by Xingzai Culture and Miaoshi Culture, will be performed at the Shenzhen Poly Theatre on Aug. 9 and 10, at the Wuxi Grand Theatre on Aug. 16 and 17, at the Great Theatre of China in Shanghai from Aug. 22 to 25, and at the Eastern Suburb Memory Theatre in Chengdu on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.
