RAMALLAH, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) said Thursday that all the agreements with Israel don't exist anymore after Israel disavowed them.

The PLO executive committee said in a press statement issued following its meeting in the West Bank city of Ramallah that "Israel is doing its best to undermine the basics and the references of the peace process."

"The aim of the Palestinian leadership decision not to abide by all the signed agreements with Israel is to move from the status of the Palestinian Authority (PA) to the status of the Palestinian state," said the PLO statement.

It also said that the Palestinian leadership wants to change the character and the content of the PA's function in accordance with the embodiment of the independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital on the borders of 1967.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced on Thursday that the Palestinian leadership is not to abide by the peace agreements signed with Israel.

He said during a meeting of the Palestinian leadership in Ramallah that a committee would be formed to implement the made decision that was based on previous decisions related to defining the nature of the relationship with Israel.

The call for the PLO emergency meeting was made after Israel's demolition of 12 buildings, including dozens of housing units in Sur Baher area, southeast of Jerusalem.

The PA has severed its political ties with the United States since Trump made a declaration in December 2017 to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and moved the U.S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem in May last year.
