BEIRUT, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Lebanese Armed Forces Commander Joseph Aoun said on Thursday that the country's difficult economic situation is hindering the creation of a modern army, according to the Presidency's website.
Aoun's remarks came during his meeting with President Michel Aoun on the Army Day.
However, the commander said the Lebanese army is keen on improving its capabilities continuously on all levels.
"We pledge that the military institution continues to be a source of pride for the Lebanese and we pledge that it will preserve the country's safety and bring all Lebanese together," he said.
