SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- The city of Oakland in Northern California Saturday held an annual celebration of bikes in the city's tourist-frequented area to promote safe cycling and bike-friendly communities in the Bay Area, local media reported.

The event, Pedalfest, which is expected to attract about 20,000 bike lovers and visitors, is a free full-day celebration of bikes that features bicycle stunt shows, food and family at Jack London Square in Oakland.

This summertime festival hosted dozens of bike-related shows and events including thrilling, dead-defying daredevil bike stunts presented by professional stunt riders, bicycle shenanigans, art bikes, live music on a pedal-powered stage, and an amphibious bike race in which cyclists pedaled through Jack London Square and into the Oakland Estuary.

Visitors and attendees will have an opportunity to see the most amazing collection of bicycles ranging from vintage and hand built bikes to high-end customs, sturdy commuters, and creative art bikes, according to Visit Oakland, a private, non-profit group that advocates tourism to the East Bay city.

Apart from exciting programs for adults, Pedalfest also offered many kid-friendly areas where younger riders can learn all about bicycle safety. A kids' bike parade was staged during the event Saturday afternoon.

The annual celebration was sponsored by safe cycling advocate Bike East Bay, ride-share company Lyft Inc., as well as other companies and agencies. Enditem
