AMMAN, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Jordan on Monday welcomed an agreement reached between Sudan's Transitional Military Council (TMC) and the opposition Freedom and Change Alliance on the constitutional declaration.

The agreement will play a major role in maintaining Sudan's security and stability as well as meeting the aspirations of its people, Foreign Ministry spokesman Sufian Qudah said in a statement obtained by Xinhua.

Qudah highlighted Jordan's support for the decisions of the Sudanese people toward achieving their hopes for peace, stability and prosperity.

The TMC and the Freedom and Change Alliance on Sunday signed an agreement on the constitutional declaration which includes the establishment of a transitional government for a period of 39 months.

The document commits the transitional government to work to achieve comprehensive peace and justice, and end the war by addressing the root causes of Sudan's problems.

The duties of the transitional government also include the establishment of mechanisms to prepare a permanent Constitution and hold a national constitutional conference before the end of the transitional period. Enditem
