JERUSALEM, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday that the government decided to invest money in promoting the research of marine aquaculture in southern port city of Eilat.

According to the prime minister, dozens of millions of shekels (about 10-20 million U.S. dollars) will be invested at the port to promote the technology and development of the mariculture sector.

Netanyahu sees marine aquaculture as "the future of the food," saying global industry and startups would take part in this hub.

Uri Ariel, minister of agriculture and rural development, said that Israel is one of the world's leaders in research and development of marine aquaculture, with "invaluable knowledge in this field."

Israel has established similar centers on a variety of particular high-tech areas.
