BEIRUT, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- UN official vowed Wednesday to encourage international organizations operating in Lebanon to purchase locally-made products to promote the country's industry sector, the National News Agency reported.
Philippe Lazzarini, the UN resident and humanitarian coordinator for Lebanon, said that international organizations in Lebanon usually spend 250 million U.S. dollars yearly to purchase their basic needs in the country.
"This amount does not include their spending on education, medical services, hospitalization and direct financial assistance to Syrian refugees," Lazzarini was quoted as saying during his meeting with Lebanese Industry Minister Wael Abou Faour.
Lazzarini's remarks came after Abou Faour's complaints about UN organizations not fulfilling their promises of focusing their purchases on local goods.
The Industry Ministry has been very active in adopting measures aimed at boosting local production. Enditem
