CHINA-GUANGDONG-SHENZHEN-DESIGNER (CN)

Zhao Jing transforms a sack that contains coffee beans into a handbag at an exhibition hall in Shenzhen, south China's Guangdong Province, Aug. 7, 2019. Zhao Jing quitted her job as a fashion designer in 2015 and started to pursue a simple life by transforming items discarded by people into artful works. Her bold idea comes as she finds people are creating mountains of garbage every day, a lifestyle that is posing a threat to the environment. Once living in the downtown of Shenzhen, Zhao moved to the outskirts Wutong Mountain to carry out her attempt. For three years, Zhao insisted in picking up used items including discarded jeans and furniture to redesign them as artworks. Her efforts are paid off. People around her are being positively influenced and those who initially could not understand her become her followers. Currently, Zhao is expanding her presence by hold exhibitions with her works in many cities. By doing so, she hoped people could lead a simple life against the backdrop of consumerism. "People need to develop an environmentally-friendly and simplified lifestyle by cutting unnecessary demands to protect the earth where we are now living," she said. (Xinhua/Liang Xu)
