KHARTOUM, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- The inflation rate in Sudan jumped to 52.59 percent in July compared with 47.78 percent in June, official SUNA news agency reported on Thursday.

The inflation rise was attributed to the hike in prices of food commodities, including wheat, rice, meat and legumes, SUNA quoted Sudan's Central Statistics Bureau as saying.

The rainy season was also among the reasons behind the rise in the inflation rate, the report added.

Darfur, Kordofan and Blue Nile states have registered a rise in inflation rate which also affected the transport movement, it said.

From January to May, the inflation rates remained stable at around 44 percent.

Sudan has been suffering a dire economic crisis since the secession of South Sudan in 2011, which caused a loss of 75 percent of oil revenues. Enditem
