WASHINGTON, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Canadian star Bianca Andreescu overcame No. 5 seed Kiki Bertens to reach the last eight of her home tournament in the Rogers Cup WTA tournament on Thursday.
The teenage Andreescu emerged victorious from a third straight three-setter at the Rogers Cup, and against her toughest opposition yet to reach the quarterfinals, outlasting the big-hitting Dutchwoman 6-1, 6-7 (7), 6-4 in one hour and 50 minutes.
Standing between Andreescu and a spot in the semifinals is former world No. 1 Karolina Pliskova.
Third seeded Pliskova of the Czech Republic defeated Anett Kontaveit of Estonia 6-3, 7-5 in an earlier third round match.
The Rogers Cup consists of ATP and WTA tournaments, with the men's tournament being underway in Montreal and women's event in Toronto.
