BERLIN, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Borussia Dortmund advanced into the second round after beating resilient third division side Uerdingen 2-0 on the second half goals from Marco Reus and Paco Alcacer in the first round of the German Cup on Friday.

The "BVB" assumed control from the kick off and pressed the hosts into defence as Mats Hummels and Paco Alcacer came close in the opening stages.

Nevertheless, the hosts grew in confidence as the match progressed, as Robert Rodriguez's shot on target forced goalkeeper Marwin Hitz into action before Osayamen Osawe pulled wide from promising position in the 38th minute.

Dortmund still looked more dangerous but lacked in accuracy in the first 45 minutes.

However, the visitors' increased the pressure in the closing period of the first half as Hummels missed the target before Alcacer headed into the arms of custodian Lukas Koningshofer from close range.

After the restart, Dortmund eventually broke the deadlock as Manuel Akanji's lob into the box found Marco Reus, who made no mistake to mark the opener with 49 minutes into the game.

The goal shocked the hosts and took the wind out of their sails. Hence, Dortmund let the ball do the work before Alcacer put the result beyond doubt after curling a free kick from 20 meters over the wall into the top right corner in the 69th minute.

"We controlled the proceedings in the first half but were unable to break the deadlock. In the second half we were more focussed and scored twice to seal the deal," Dortmund's skipper Marco Reus said.

Elsewhere, Borussia Monchengladbach booked their berth for the second round as well after edging second-tier opponent Sandhausen on Marcus Thuram's sole goal.

Second division club Nuremberg also advanced as Nikola Dovedan's late goal eliminated third division outfit Ingolstadt.

The following top-flight teams step into contest on Saturday: Kaiserslautern see Mainz, Verl host Augsburg, Alemannia Aachen face Bayer Leverkusen, Magdeburg encounter Freiburg, Villingen meet Fortuna Dusseldorf, Dochtersen/Assel clash with Schalke, Wurzburger Kickers take on Hoffenheim and Werder Bremen travel to Atlas Delmenhorst.
