RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's coffee exports increased by 28.2 percent year-on-year to 3.2 million 60-kilogram bags in July, the best result for the month in five years, a local industry association reported Friday.
Coffee exports in July generated revenues of 378.2 million U.S. dollars, up by 5.1 percent from a year ago, according to the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council (Cecafe).
In particular, exports of Arabica beans accounted for 71.4 percent of the total exports in July, while robusta coffee and instant coffee sells accounted for 18.2 percent and 10.3 percent respectively, the report said.
From January to July, Brazil exported 23.5 million bags of coffee, up by 37.6 percent compared to the same period last year. Total exports in the first seven months have so far generated profits of 2.9 billion dollars, up by 11 percent compared to the same period in 2018, it said.
"The volumes exported during July show that Brazil maintains a positive pace and that it works in the shipment of sustainable coffees with quality and efficiency. One of the highlights was the increase on the exports to the United States and Germany," said Cecafe's President Nelson Carvalhaes.
According to the Cecafe, the United States and Germany, accounting for 18.7 percent and 16.7 percent of total sales in 2019 respectively, were so far the top two destination countries of Brazilian coffee exports this year.
