WARSAW, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Poland celebrated a thumping victory on the second day of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) men's Olympic qualifiers in Gdansk on Saturday.

There was a carnival atmosphere at the Ergo Arena as 10,000 spectators watched Poland storm to a convincing straight-set win over France, their strongest rival in this tournament, 25-21, 25-19, 25-20.

The victory came as a huge relief to the Poles, who saw their women's team beaten in the qualifiers last week in Wroclaw.

Teams from 24 nations are currently in battle at various venues around the world seeking qualification to the Tokyo Olympics.

France is currently the reining European Champions and placed 10th in the FIVB world rankings.

In the second Pool D encounter of the evening, Slovenia beat Tunisia 25-23, 25-16, 26-24.

On Sunday, France will take on Tunisia, followed by Poland playing Slovenia. Only the highest-placed team from each of the pools will earn a place in Tokyo.
