Rio de Janeiro, Aug 11 (Xinhua) -- A Brazilian judge revoked the arrest of former billionaire Eike Batista late Saturday after he was detained for violating the terms of his house arrest, local media reported.

Simone Schreiber, Appeals Court judge, ruled that the detention of the former Brazilian richest man "violated the Constitution... and the principle of presumption of innocence."

On Thursday, police arrested 62-year-old Batista in Rio de Janeiro on suspicion of insider trading and money laundering, local news portal G1 said.

Batista, once ranked seventh on Forbe's list of the world's wealthiest, has been under house arrest pending an appeal against a 30-year jail sentence.

In 2018, he was convicted and sentenced to 30 years in prison for money laundering and corruption. He paid 16.5 million U.S. dollars in bribe to now-imprisoned former Rio de Janeiro Governor Sergio Cabral in exchange for state construction contracts.
