TEHRAN, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Iranian striker Mehdi Sharifi has joined Azerbaijan soccer team Sumgayit, Persian Football website reported on Tuesday.
The 26-year-old forward, who had been deemed surplus to requirements by Iran's Persepolis coach Gabriel Calderon, has penned a two-year contract with Sumgayit.
Sharifi joined Persepolis in June 2018 with a two-year contract but played just four times for the Iranian team and failed to score.
Sumgayit FK is an Azerbaijan soccer club based in Sumgayit that plays in the Azerbaijan Premier League.
