HONG KONG, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong’s population reached over 7.5 million at mid-2019, up 1 percent compared to that a year ago, the Census and Statistics Department of China’s Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government said here on Tuesday.
Population increase comprises natural increase and net movement of Hong Kong residents.
According to the department, the natural increase of the population from mid-2018 to mid-2019 amounted to 5,700. Over the same period, there was a net movement of 67,400 persons, of which 44,400 were inflow of one-way Permit (People’s Republic of China Permit for Proceeding to Hong Kong and Macao) holders.
The Hong Kong population is measured by the combined “Usual Residents and “Mobile Residents. Among the total population at mid-2019, over 7.3 million were "Usual Residents" and 214,000 were "Mobile Residents".
As usual, the latest population figure released is provisional. The revised one will be released six months later.
