CHONGQING, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Four people have been confirmed dead and three others remained missing in a landslide in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, local authorities said Thursday.

The landslide occurred at about 3 a.m. Wednesday, bringing down 70,000 cubic meters of mud and rocks to bury two houses and one work shed in Siwan village in Chengkou, one of the most remote counties in Chongqing.

There is the risk of a second landslide, thus limiting the rescue operation to small-scale efforts, said the county government.

Local authorities have evacuated nearby villagers to safety.
