WINDHOEK, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- The annual inflation rate slowed to 3.6 percent in July, down 0.9 percentage points year on year, according to statistics released on Thursday.

The slowdown in the annual inflation rate resulted in the declining of the price levels of alcoholic beverages, tobacco, health, hotels, cafes and restaurant, transport, miscellaneous goods and services, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuel respectively, according to the Namibia Statistics Agency.

"The twelve months annual average and monthly average inflation rates for the period August 2018 to July 2019 stood at 4.6 percent and 0.3 percent, while the calendar year average annual and average monthly inflation rates for the period January 2019 to July 2019 were estimated as 4.2 percent and 0.3 percent respectively," statistician general Alex Shimuafeni said.

According to Shimuafeni during the month of July 2019, the main drivers of annual inflation rate were education, transport, hotels, cafes and restaurants, alcoholic beverages and tobacco, food and non-alcoholic beverages and recreation and culture.
