WINDHOEK, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Namibia will host a four-match T20 cricket international series against Botswana from August 19 to 23 in the capital Windhoek.

A statement from governing body Cricket Namibia on Thursday said this will be the first-ever T20 series played on Namibian soil.

The two teams will also play two friendly 50-over games on August 18 and August 24, Cricket Namibia added.

Head coach of Namibia's men's team, Pierre De Bruyn, said he was excited to play the country's first T20 internationals on home soil.

"From a team's perspective, it gives us an opportunity to get our combinations right with our T20 global competition in October, to get players in certain roles, and most importantly, it is four T20 games, so it means preparations and match time for the guys who haven't played a lot of cricket since May in Uganda," he said.

De Bruyn said despite the team constantly working hard in the nets and engaging in vigorous training sessions, there is nothing better than match time for the squad.

According to De Bruyn, there is strong competition in the camp as players are fighting for places to make the final cut.

"The competition is good for us, as it will give us some good information next week, as coaches and selectors look for the final squad of 15 for the Dubai tournament in October," he added.

Meanwhile, all four matches will be official international games, with ranking points on offer for T20 international team rankings.
