JERUSALEM, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Three Israelis were seriously wounded on Friday in an explosion outside a West Bank settlement, Israeli sources said.

A military spokesperson said in a statement that the explosion was "a terror attack." It took place near the settlement of Dolev, northwest of Ramallah.

The spokesperson said that the three were at a nearby spring when an improvised explosive device blasted. It was not immediately clear whether the device was implanted at the site or thrown at them.

"The circumstances of the attack are being looked into," said the spokesperson.

Israel's Magen David Adom rescue service said a 46-year-old father and his teenage boy and girl were injured. The girl was taken to hospital by helicopter in a critical condition. The boy sustained serious injuries, the father sustained moderate injuries.

Increased number of Israeli troops have been deployed and are searching the area.

The incident was part of a recent escalation of tension in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, amidst calls by Hamas to implement a long-term ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
