WELLINGTON, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- New Zealand government will re-develop Invercargill, the southernmost and westernmost city in New Zealand, by putting 19.5 million New Zealand dollars for the re-development project.

Shane Jones, the Regional Economic Development minister said, "The project is able to advance the GDP of the Southland by approximately 48 million New Zealand dollars per year."

"The business project will create 800 jobs in the coming future, including 500 construction positions and 300 retail and hospitality positions," added Jones.

The funding will come from the 3 billion New Zealand dollars Provincial Growth Fund.

"These possible positive outcomes would change the future of Invercargill and regions close to Invercargill," Jones said.

The re-development project will re-develop an entire block in the Invercargill city centre for retail, hospitality, office space and entertainment.
