BELGRADE, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Dozens of Chinese and Serbian gathered in the heart of Belgrade on Tuesday for a peaceful rally, voicing strong support for Hong Kong authorities to curb the ongoing violence there.

Chinese businessmen and tourists as well as local citizens waved the national flags of China and Serbia, sang Chinese songs, and carried banners reading "China mustn't and shouldn't be divided," "I love China, I love Hong Kong," and "Support to Hong Kong Police."

Dejian Pesut, a local who speaks fluent Chinese, told Xinhua that Serbian people support the police in the Chinese port city in stopping violence. "The problems in Hong Kong should be resolved soon, because Hong Kong will always remain part of China," Pesut said.

Overseas Chinese in Serbia proudly stand by their motherland in facing challenges, said Zhang Jie, executive vice president of the China Council for the Promotion of Peaceful National Reunification in Serbia.
