SHANGHAI, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Wang Chen, a senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official and chief of the China Law Society, has called on local law societies across the country to improve their work and contribute to advancing law-based governance.

Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks on an inspection tour on Tuesday and Wednesday in Shanghai, during which he attended a work meeting of China's local law societies.

Local law societies across the country should unite and lead law scholars and workers to promote China's law research and strive to establish a socialist legal science system with Chinese characteristics, Wang said.

He called on the law societies to serve the overall work of the Party and the country as well as local economic and social development and to meet with people's demands regarding justice, security, environmental protection, education and other issues.
