CHICAGO, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) crop futures settled mixed on Wednesday, with corn prices climbing sharply over U.S. government's pledge to boost biofuel demand.
The most active corn contract for December delivery was up 4.75 cents, or 1.3 percent to settle at 3.71 U.S. dollars per bushel. November soybeans were up 6.5 cents, or 0.76 percent to settle at 8.6575 dollars per bushel.
December wheat was down 1.5 cents, or 0.31 percent to close at 4.7525 dollars per bushel.
U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue told a farmers' event in Illinois on Wednesday that Trump administration is looking for ways to boost U.S. biofuel demand.
Although he did not elaborate or offer any time frame, the pledge pushed up the prices of corn, as the grain is used in production of ethanol fuel.
CBOT soybeans also recovered from early losses on technical buying, said market watchers, while ample supplies and competition from Black Sea and European Union dragged down CBOT wheat futures. Enditem
