VIENNA, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Austria's leading rail operator planned to cool down overheated rail tracks and carriages affected by hot weather.
Austrian Federal Railways (OBB) said on Thursday that the company will change its current trains, a type with climate-friendly features, into the ones installed with a more powerful air-conditioning system.
The company's CEO Andreas Mattha noted that overheating problem is due to climate change.
Mattha told Austria Press Agency that the boiling summer made rails buckle to an extent "never seen before," stressing the importance to paint rail tracks white during summers, in hopes that the light color would bring down the temperature a few degrees.
As climate condition become more extreme, rails will need to operate stress-free in heat and cold spell alike, according to Mattha.
