Pakistani coast guards recover narcotics worth 3.5 mln USD

ISLAMABAD, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan Coast Guards (PCG) on Thursday seized about 20 kg of high quality of heroin and liquor from Pasni district of the country’s southwest Balochistan province.

The value of the seized drugs is worth 3.5 million U.S. dollars in the international market, a spokesman of the PCG told Xinhua.

The coast guards intensified its operations in the area after receiving an intelligence tip-off regarding possible smuggling of the drugs from Balochistan border.

"During checking at a police check post, the PCG officials spotted a suspicious vehicle. On searching the vehicle, the officials recovered approximately 20 kg of high quality of heroin hidden secretly in the vehicle," a handout by the PCG read.

In a separate operation, a special mobile team recovered 15 bottles of liquor, besides apprehending three Pakistani illegal immigrants who were proceeding to Iran without valid passports.

Further investigation on the detained people and legal process regarding the seized narcotics is underway.
