NEW DELHI, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- India's state-owned carrier Air India (AI) will completely ban the use of plastic in Alliance Air and Air India Express from October 2, state-run broadcaster All India Radio said on Thursday.

It is reported that the plastic tea cups will be replaced with sturdy paper cups and plastic tumblers will be replaced with paper tumblers.

Air India Express is an Indian low-cost airline. Alliance Air is an Indian regional airline.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier urged people to eliminate single-use plastic from the country from October 2.
