SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- A 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck off Oregon coast on Thursday, with the epicenter located at about 284 km northwest of Bandon in the state's Coos County, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported.
There were no reports of casualties or property losses.
The USGS said the quake was a result of strike-slip faulting along the Blanco Fracture Zone, a transform fault marking the boundary between the Pacific Plate to the southwest and the Juan de Fuca Plate to the northeast.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Tsunami Warning Center did not immediately issue a tsunami warning for the area hit by the tremor, which was detected with a depth of 5.4 km.
Within 250 km of Thursday's event, there were 21 other earthquakes of magnitude 6 and larger over the 100 preceding years, according to the USGS.
A magnitude 6.9 earthquake that occurred on July 13, 1991, the largest of the reported events, was felt throughout much of western Oregon and northern California, it said.
