GUANGZHOU, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- Title contender Spain set their first goal to top Group C in FIBA Basketball World Cup before their opening match against Tunisia here on Saturday.

"We will take one game at a time and try to make the first place in the group," Spain coach Sergio Scariolo said in the pre-match press conference on Friday.

Spain is considered one of the strongest challengers to defending champion USA. The Dream Team is facing the reality of absence of big stars. Some even believe it is the best chance for Spain to repeat the glory in 2006, when they stood on the top podium of FIBA World Championships in Japan.

Sergio Scariolo said the team would take one game at a time and not consider the far future.

"I think it is not smart to look too far, it is better to be shortsighted and take one step after another," the Italian said.

The 58-year old admitted that Spain was not 100 percent now, but the team will find the rhythm in a short time.

"We have some physical problems, but in a few days the team will improve to a new level. We need time to polish and get better," he said.
