HONG KONG, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- A large group of protesters vandalized and threw petrol bombs into the headquarters of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government and the Legislative Council on Saturday.

Violent protesters occupied the Harcourt Road in Admiralty, vandalized the Legislative Council building, and threw petrol bombs, corrosives and bricks.

Police raised flags to warn the protesters to stop charging. After repeated and futile warnings, police deployed tear gas and colored water to disperse the protesters.

Earlier on Saturday, protesters occupied roads in Causeway Bay, Wan Chai, Admiralty and Central, defying a police ban. Some protesters smashed traffic lights as they marched along. Around 5:20 p.m., they surrounded the HKSAR government headquarters.
