NANNING, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Hengxian County in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has been named the "World Jasmine Capital" by the International Garden Center Association (IGCA).

The honor was announced at an international conference on jasmine tea and the tea trade held in Hengxian on Saturday.

Known as China's "home of jasmine," Hengxian planted 7,200 hectares of jasmine and churned out more than 90,000 tonnes of jasmine flowers and over 70,000 tonnes of jasmine tea in 2018.

The county is also the world's largest jasmine tea production and processing base, accounting for about 60 percent of the annual global output, according to Mei Yu, secretary general of the China Tea Marketing Association.

Neville Stein, IGCA's honorary president, said at the conference that he hoped Hengxian's jasmine tea industry would capitalize on the growing consumer interest worldwide in specialty tea drinks.
