China wins three gold, secures two more Olympic spots at rowing worlds

LINZ-OTTENSHEIM, Austria, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- China claimed its third gold and added two spots at the 2019 World Rowing Championships here on Sunday.

In the men's double sculls (M2x), the Chinese rowers Liu Zhiyu and Zhang Liang dominated the race to finish first, clocking 6:05:68, followed by Ireland with 6:06:25 and Poland with 6:07:87.

In the B final of women's double sculls (W2x), Chinese Wang Yuwei and Lu Shiyu finished fourth for a spot at Tokyo, clocking 6:58:04.

In another B final of women's single sculls (W1x), Chinese Jiang Yan finished first in 7:37:20 to bring China's Olympic qualification spot total to six.

As the 2019 World Rowing Championships ended Sunday, New Zealand led the medal table with four gold and two silver medals, followed by Italy with three gold, four silver and three bronze medals.

China was third with three golds and one silver. China also secured Olympic berths of the men's and women's lightweight quadruple sculls, the men's and women's quadruple sculls and the women's pair (W2) in the championships starting on August 25.
