BEIRUT, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Lebanon on Tuesday urged Turkish Foreign Ministry to clarify its negative remarks against Lebanese President Michel Aoun, local TV channel OTV reported.

"We suggest Turkish Foreign Ministry issue a statement clarifying its negative stance towards the Lebanese president," Ghadi Khoury, director of political affairs at the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told Turkish Ambassador to Lebanon Hakan Cakil.

Cakil was summoned by the Lebanese foreign ministry over the remarks made on Sunday by Turkish Foreign Ministry against Aoun.

Aoun said on Saturday that the Ottomans practiced terror against the Lebanese, especially during World War One, causing hundreds of thousands of victims due to famine, conscription and forced labor.

Turkey's Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Sunday, denouncing Aoun's remarks as "baseless and biased" while denying that state terror had taken place in Lebanon under the Ottoman rule.
