BEIJING, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- A senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official on Wednesday called on personages without party affiliation to be the CPC's "good advisors, aides and colleagues."

You Quan, a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, told a symposium here that personages without party affiliation have faithfully worked with the CPC and played an important role in the country's development.

He urged them to stay true to their original aspiration and contribute their wisdom to the major causes of the Party and state.

Currently in China those who do not belong to any party but have made positive contributions to and have a positive influence on society are categorized as personages without party affiliation. They are mostly intellectuals.

Before major decisions concerning the national economy and people's livelihood are made, the CPC consults with the eight non-Communist parties and personages without party affiliation to seek a consensus.
