PRAUGE, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- Prague experienced the hottest summer on record this year with an average temperature of 22.9 degrees Celsius in the June-August period, the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute said on its website Friday.

This summer ranked first in the past 245 years of measurement in Klementinum weather station in Prague since 1775, according to the institute.

The second hottest summer so far was summer 2018 with an average temperature of 22.7 degrees, followed by the year 2003 with an average temperature of 22.4 degrees.

Extremely warm June is probably the biggest contributor to this year's record-breaking average temperature, according to the institute. It added that the temperature in July and August were also above-normal.

The coldest summer in the Czech capital was registered in 1844 when the average temperature was 16.4 degrees. Enditem
