Young swimmers shine at Anshan Chinese national swim meet

ANSHAN, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- Without big names, the young swimmers took the limelight of the Chinese Autumn Swimming Championships here on Saturday as Ji Xinjie, Wang Xue'er, Li Guangyuan and Yu Jingyao bagged home gold medals.

In the men's 200m freestyle, 22-year-old Ji Xinjie became the champion in a time of one minute and 47.12 seconds, followed by Hong Jinquan in 1:49.09 and Zheng Rui in 1:49.63.

Guangdong swimmers Wang Xue'er stood atop of the podium in the women's 100m backstroke with a time of 1:00.12. Chen Jie took the silver 1:00.83 while Liu Xiang, 50m backstroke world recorder, came to third in 1:01.06 while.

Li Guangyuan from Zhejiang claimed victory in men's 100m backstroke in 54.89 seconds and Yu Jingyao of Beijing dominated the women's 100m breaststroke in 1:08.60.

Held from September 4 to 12, the championship is considered a rehearsal for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games with morning final competition format.

A total of 522 swimmers are taking part in the meet, with 278 male and 244 female participants across 25 teams.
