SHENZHEN, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- Tomas Satoransky proved himself the leader with a game-high 20 points, helping Czech Republic cruise past Brazil 93-71 in Group K at the FIBA World Cup second round here on Saturday.
Czech Republic surged to a 4-0 run with Satoransky's 7 points to lead Brazil 20-16 in the first quarter, before expanding the lead to 13 points on 45-32 with a 11-0 sprint at the break.
The margin was stretched to 20 points on 54-34 with seven minutes left in the third as the Czech totally controlled the game tempo under the leash of 27-year-old Satoransky. Brazil couldn't cut the deficit in the fourth period as the Czech pocketed the easy win on 93-71.
"Another great game for us. We shared the ball and we adjusted well. I salute my players and my coaching staff. It's an amazing time for us, an amazing time for Czech Republic basketball," said Czech Republic head coach Ronen Ginzburg.
Satoransky led the team with 20 points, 9 assists and 7 rebounds. Center Ondrej Balvin had 15 points and 11 rebounds. Patrik Auda and Jaromir Bohacik added 14 and 12 respectively.
Only three Brazil player scored double-figure. Vitor Benite grabbed a team-high 12 points, followd by 11 from Marcelinho Huertas and Leandrinho Barbosa apiece.
"I would like to congratulate the Czech Republic, they played a great game. But looking from the Brazil side of the game, our big problem is for the first time in this tournament we came to the game without energy," Brazil head coach Aleksandar Petrovic said.
"Maybe the accumulation of the games in Nanjing, maybe the trip.
"We cannot respond to the Czech Republic's intensity and they dominated all aspects of the game," he added.
Brazil have not really been able to hit their shots -- just 48 percent from the field including 30 percent on three-pointers. Czech scored 22 more points in the paint than Brazil, who also collected 11 more rebounds over the opponent.
