Rainfall brings flood to 241 rivers in China in August

BEIJING, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- A total of 241 rivers experienced flood exceeding the warning levels in China in August, including 21 rivers reporting water levels above the historical records, according to the Ministry of Water Resources.

The average precipitation in China was 105.4 mm in August, 3 percent more than the average in August in the previous years.

There were 5 typhoons in the western Pacific Ocean and the South China Sea in August, 0.8 less than the same period last year.

Three typhoons landed in China in August, 1.7 less than the average in August in the previous years.

The total water storage of 6,920 reservoirs in China was 421 billion cubic meters at the end of August, about 9 percent more than average in August in the previous years, but 3 percent less than the same period last year.
