MEXICO CITY, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- Uruguayan Gustavo Matosas arrived in Mexico on Sunday to take charge of Liga MX side Atletico de San Luis, three days after parting ways with Costa Rica's national team.

The 52-year-old will replace Luis Alfonso Sosa, who was was sacked on Wednesday following a poor run of results and reports of dressing room unrest.

"I spoke with [San Luis president] Alberto Marrero and it seems to me that there is the right structure and support in place to do a good job," Matosas told reporters upon his arrival in Mexico City. "It's a good squad with quality players and it's a serious project."

Matosas quit as head coach of Costa Rica on Thursday, saying he felt "bored" and "unproductive".

A former midfielder who was capped seven times for Uruguay's national team, Matosas has managed 14 different clubs since retiring as a player in 2001. Costa Rica was his first experience as a manager at international level.

Atletico de San Luis are currently 10th in the Liga MX Apertura standings with three wins, two draws and two losses.

Matosas will take charge of the team for the first time against Puebla on September 13. Enditem
