BEIRUT, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Turkey wants to establish an academy in northern Lebanon to teach furniture manufacturing, the National News Agency reported Thursday.

"We are open to cooperating with Turkey and we will have multiple projects with the country in the future," Assad Hariri, head of Tripoli's Traders Association, said during his meeting in Tripoli with Turkish Ambassador to Lebanon Hakan Cakil.

Hariri emphasized the importance of the trade ties between Lebanon and Turkey, noting that Lebanon's import from Turkey is annually valued at 1 billion U.S. dollars.

During his visit to Lebanon last month, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu announced that Turkey is highly interested in investing in several areas in Lebanon including the energy field.
