AMMAN, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Jordan on Thursday urged the permanent members of the UN Security Council to take "immediate and effective" actions against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's pledge to annex Jordan Valley and adjacent northern Dead Sea in the occupied West Bank.
At a meeting in Amman with ambassadors of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council to Jordan, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi called on the international community to take a clear stand and denounce Netanyahu's pledge by rejecting the announcement.
"This is a dangerous escalation that shatters the foundations of the peace process and will only lead to further violence and conflict in the region," he said in a statement.
Safadi said the implementation of the announcement will jeopardise the two-state solution, which is the only solution to solve the Palestinain-Israeli conflict.
The Jordanian official urged the five permanent members to take the necessary measures to stop Israel's illegal unilateral measures.
On Tuesday, Netanyahu pledged to to annex a key part of the occupied West Bank if re-elected. Israel occupied the West Bank in the 1967 Six-Day War and also seized part of the Golan Heights from Syria.
