Xi stresses hot showers availability, facilities improvement at traditional villages

"Rural revitalization is not always about demolition and reconstruction," Xi Jinping said. "It is about upgrading the facilities of traditional villages with distinctive features to make them more modern and convenient to use, so that hot showers are available and the countryside is clean and beautiful."

ZHENGZHOU, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, stressed upgrading facilities for the convenience of villagers' daily life when an inspection tour in central China's Henan Province brought him to Tianpu Township, Xinxian County on Monday.

"Rural revitalization is not always about demolition and reconstruction," Xi said. "It is about upgrading the facilities of traditional villages with distinctive features to make them more modern and convenient to use, so that hot showers are available and the countryside is clean and beautiful."

Taking a walk along a countryside road at Tianpudawan village, Xi visited two craftsmanship shops and a homestay to learn about local efforts in building a town of Chuangke, or makers, promoting rural tourism and advancing rural revitalization. He also bought several pairs of handmade insoles with local characteristics.
