RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro's trip to New York City to participate in the United Nation General Assembly (UNGA) has been confirmed, presidential spokesperson Otavio Rego Barros said Wednesday.

Bolsonaro is expected to deliver an opening speech in the UNGA on Sept. 24, which will be his first General Assembly speech since he took office in January.

Bolsonaro's medical team has already given their permission to the presidential trip starting on Sept. 23, Rego Barros said.

"The president had a great day today, in clinical terms," Rego Barros said. "We are confident and I can affirm with 100 percent certainty that the president will go to New York."

The 74th session of the UN General Assembly opened at UN headquarters in New York on Tuesday, which will run until Sept. 30.

Bolsonaro underwent a hernia surgery on Sept. 8 and had a 10-day recovery period. Therefore, he had to miss the important address-making opening session of the UNGA.
