TIRANA, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Over 1,100 persons declared nationally wanted for various criminal offenses have been detained in Albania since Jan. 1 this year, Aida Hajnaj, deputy director general of the Albanian State Police (ASP), said here on Thursday.

At a press conference, Hajdaj summed up the ASP's latest results in the fight against crime in Albania.

"The ASP has focused on and strengthened its cooperation with two of its most important allies, citizens and international partners," Hajnaj said.

She said that a total of 1,187 persons declared wanted nationally have been detained since Jan. 1 for various criminal offenses, such as serious crimes against persons and property, narcotics cultivation and trafficking, economic and financial crimes, domestic violence and environmental crimes.

Hajnaj said that, thanks to its cooperation with citizens, during the same period the ASP has also detained 259 persons accused of various criminal offenses, including persons with high social risk.

"Since Jan. 1, Interpol Tirana, in cooperation with the police as well as with international partners, has arrested in Albania for extradition purposes 129 persons declared internationally wanted, including 99 Albanian citizens and 30 foreign nationals, 60 of whom have been extradited so far -- 39 Albanians and 21 foreign nationals," Hajnaj specified.

She underlined that Interpol Tirana, in cooperation with its counterparts, has arrested 104 persons declared internationally wanted by the Albanian authorities. Arrests were also made in Italy, Germany, France, Britain, the Netherlands, the United States and Greece. To date, 75 persons have been extradited to Albania, while the rest are still awaiting their extradition.
