Romania to send 80 athletes to World Military Games in China

BUCHAREST, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Romanian Army will send a total of 80 athletes for the World Military Games to be held in Wuhan, China, between October 16 and 29, announced the Ministry of National Defense on Thursday.

The Romanians will compete with athletes from over 100 countries in athletics (jumping, running and throwing tests), orientation, military pentathlon, triathlon, boxing, judo, fights, swimming (swimming and jumping in the water), fencing, sports shooting and archery, according to the ministry.

From the representative group are members of both military units of the Romanian Army, as well as sportsmen legitimized at the "Steaua" Sports Club Bucharest and within the National Defense University.

The group also has four disabled or injured soldiers, who will participate in the archery and athletics shooting event.

The World Military Games, organized by the International Military Sports Council, are held every four years, reaching the seventh edition this year, and represent the military equivalent of the Summer Olympic Games.

The Romanian Army has been a member of the International Military Sports Council since 1992.
