WELLINGTON, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- A 38-year-old bus driver appeared in Auckland District Court here on Friday after he was charged with careless use of a motor vehicle.

The tourist bus he was driving crashed on Sept. 4 on State Highway 5 north of Rotorua which killed five people including four adults and a young child.

The tourist bus with 27 people on board including the driver rolled on State Highway 5 at Ngatira, 20 km northwest of Rotorua on a stretch of bush-edged road between Waiohotu and Galaxy Rds.

Police said the bus was travelling south towards Rotorua and failed to take a moderate bend. As a result, it went to the wrong side of the road, corrected and subsequently flipped.

A police spokesperson said "the investigation is still ongoing and police cannot rule out further charges being laid."
