BANGKOK, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Chinatown Thai-Chinese Association said on Tuesday that Bangkok's Chinatown is ready to kick off its annual Vegetarian Festival from Sept 28 to Oct 7.
Prasit Ongwattana, chairman of the association, said the event will be also held to celebrate the Thai king's accession to the throne, carry on Chinese tradition of observing precepts, and abstain from all kinds of animal meat and animal products.
The vegetarian festival will be organized with collaboration among local residents, traders, restaurant operators in Chinatown and private sponsors.
It is Bangkok's iconic annual vegetarian festival, attended by a large number of locals and tourists every year.
During the festival celebration, a procession will carry statues of Chinese Gods from the shrines to the Royal Jubilee Gate at Odean circle for devotees and festival goers to pay respects to the Gods throughout the 10-day event.
The Goddess of Mercy, Guanyin floral procession is among the highlights at the opening ceremony scheduled for Sept. 29.
Delicious vegetarian food will be distributed for participants. Many food stalls will offer a wide range of vegetarian and vegan dishes along Yaowarat Road.
