COPENHAGEN, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Spies Travel Agency, the iconic Danish subsidiary of the troubled UK travel giant Thomas Cook, confidently resumed their flights Tuesday.

"High-pressure work has been done all Monday to get Thomas Cook Airlines Scandinavia back in the air and in normal operation. We can now announce that flights will resume from Tuesday, Sept. 24," announced Spies on their company's website Monday evening.

The bankruptcy petition filed by Thomas Cook Sunday has left nearly 600,000 customers stranded across the world.

Some 1,400 Spies customers have been affected by the Thomas Cook collapse on Monday alone, according to the company.

Spies has managed to accomplish the resumption of their flights by moving aircraft registered with Thomas Cook Airlines in England to a local Nordic airline.

Meantime, for those customers who were prevented from leaving for their vacation on Monday, Spies has guaranteed that they will be reimbursed money for the canceled trip.

Danish commentators are in general agreement that the Danish part of the Thomas Cook business is both profitable and in good shape.

"Thomas Cook can see that the business in Scandinavia has a future. Denmark and Scandinavia have been profitable. Thomas Cook has been a millstone around Spies's neck," said Ole Krohn, a commentator on Denmark's TV 2 News.

Nevertheless, Spies is not "out of the woods" quite yet as further problems on the ground may arise for their guests in the coming days.

"We have been informed that due to the bankruptcy there has been some turbulence in relation to the payment of certain hotels at the destinations. Over the next few days there may be still problems, which we deeply regret," said the Spies website.
