Palmeiras extend winning run to keep pressure on leaders Flamengo

SAO PAULO, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Former Milan striker Luiz Adriano scored a brace as reigning champions Palmeiras routed CSA 6-2 in Brazil's Serie A championship on Thursday.

Adriano opened the scoring from close range in the sixth minute and doubled his personal tally in the 75th minute with a sublime volley after Lucas Araujo's floating 30-yard pass.

Bruno Henrique also netted twice while Gustavo Gomez and Willian scored one goal each as the hosts secured their fifth straight league victory.

Defender Apodi and Ricardo Bueno were on target for the visitors, who are now 18th in the 20-team standings with just four wins from 21 matches in this campaign.

Palmeiras remain second with 13 wins, six draws and two losses, three points behind leaders Flamengo.

In Porto Alegre, Gremio had six individual scorers as they romped to a 6-1 home win over Avai.

Diego Tardelli, David Braz, Luan, Lucian Rocha, Bruno Cortez and Andre Felipe scored for the hosts while Geirton Marques netted for Avai.

In other matches on Thursday, Athletico Paranaense won 4-1 at home to Fortaleza and Santos drew 1-1 at Fluminense.
